Ribeiro Wine

The vineyards that belong to the Ribeiro denomination of origin have been established across the western tip of Ourense, bordering on Portugal, in a region that is near the courses of the rivers Miño, Avia and Arnoia, all three of which have broad valleys.

Vineyards in the Ribeiro DO reach the 3,500 hectares, with a density of 7,000 vines per hectare, established in moist brown earth, with an elevated acid content, with little lime and with a lot of organic materials. Its Atlantic climate, mild and humid, gets 1,800 hours of sunlight per year or more.

The most characteristic strains in Ribeiro are Treixadura, Jerez, Torrontés, Godello, Macabeo, Albilla, Loureira and Albariño for the white wines, and Caiño, Grenache, Ferrón, Sousón, Mencía, Tempranillo and Brancellao for the red varieties. The white wines are the jewel in the DO, they are elegant, fresh, light, very aromatic wines with high levels of fixed acidity and a pale reddish color.
